Ms Kerris Macauley of Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice about an article which discussed utility companies' usage of the direct debit scheme as a means of taking payment from customers. The complainant considered that the article displayed a lack of balance.

The newspaper did not accept that its article was in breach of the Code; however, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated a meeting between the complainant and the newspaper with a view to producing a follow up article on the matter.
