Mr Syed Ahmad complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article that had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The article had reported on claims that the Egyptian Parliament was planning to introduce a law allowing husbands to engage in sexual intercourse with their dead wives, a claim that the complainant said was based on unfounded rumour.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the headline to the online article (‘Egypt's ‘plans for farewell intercourse law so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives' branded completely false'), and the publication of the following apology:
