Complainant Name:
A man

Clauses Noted: 14

Publication: Swindon Advertiser

Complaint:

A man complained to the Press Complaints Commission under Clause 14 (Confidential sources) of the Editors' Code that - despite his having requested in an email to the reporter that he be made anonymous - a newspaper had identified him in an article discussing anti-social behaviour on his estate.

Resolution:

The newspaper explained that the email request, made subsequent to the interview, had not been received by the reporter until after the newspaper had gone to press. While it did not accept any breach of the Code, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated a private letter for the complainant, as well as the removal of his name from the online article.
