Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1 Publication: Daily Record Complaint: Gair & Gibson Solicitors complained to the Press Complaints Commission on behalf of Ms Mary Reid who considered that the newspaper had published an article breaching Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant was of the view that the headline to the article had been inaccurate; in particular, she had not denied being a Gypsy, and was extremely proud of her Gypsy heritage. The complainant felt that the article headline bore no relation to the story reported. Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the online article, and the publication of the following apology: Mary Reid On 31 January, as part of an article concerning the pending court case against Mary Reid over the filling in of a census form, we incorrectly stated that she had denied being a Gypsy. In fact, Mary Reid is a Gypsy and is extremely proud of her heritage. At no time has she said that she is not a Gypsy. We offer her our apologies for this error.Date Published: 01/06/2012 << Go Back |
